I have always been fascinated by wood, initially as a material to work and then it its' living form. The catalyst of this first installation was the discovery of Andy Goldsworthy's work of the same name.
WOOD is centered on an image of one of my local woods as it emerged from winter with young shoots breaking forth. It is surrounded directly by woods in each of the seasons and bounded by monochrome images that explore other woods and draw the viewer inward and upward.
The fifteen canvases explored different aspects of WOOD from a young emerging wood to an ancient oak in autumn whilst recognising wood as a material, visual and spiritual source.
